Azbox Premium + HD

the clones have been out for well over 2 years and i know this because i have had one in my hands that was dead after a firmware upgrade, i jtaged it and loaded an older firmware on it and told the man to never update it and never bring it back for me to repair it, and to call ricks when he needed a new one.

What model was it?

Didn't state it well enough. The flood of AzBox Premium HD Plus clones into Canada was made known in December (though they discovered some in October), and prompted a delay in updated firmware from AZBox Canada (author of 5400 and 5402, both released July 2012) who said "all subsequent firmware releases will include code in order to permanently disable these devices."
no a clone kill code is only a 30 min setback if you know what to do and how to do it, but if you have a true azbox, then you see a clone you will know it,
there is somthing off looking about a clone.

Sure, for someone like yourself who knows what to do to recover a bricked unit, most probably would be recoverable (of course, some clone units could be "once a brick, always a brick" LOL!). However, it certainly would "permanently" disable any clone from using that firmware!

well i wish it were that simple but it is not infact there are clone safe files out there for the azboxes, all one needs to do is remove the clone
kill code from the firmware then load it.
the only way to stop cloned recivers is to bomb china.

if you reload firmware 5402 and it dont kill it then its not a clone, and i was told that 5402 had a clone kill code in it.

Well, whoever told you that lied to you as our 5402 firmware version has NO clone kill code in it.

If memory serves me well, Angel is owned by WWS, or vice versa, or sister companies. Either way I believe they are affiliated.

This is incorrect. Even though Angel Electronics and GTA Electronics (aka Worldwide Satellites) have retail stores located in the same city within 8.9 km (5.6 miles) from each other, they are actually fierce rivals and are NOT affiliated with each other in any way! However, WWS IS affiliated with Research Electronics from Waterloo, ON who is another AzBox Canada unauthorised retailer and they are getting their AzBox units from WWS.

This was an AzBox Premium HD (non plus) unit as the AzBox Premium HD Plus units have only been out since 2012.

Not bad at all Rob. The azbox premium+, in my opinion, has the best picture quality of all my receivers and opens all 4:2:2 and 4:2:0 feeds which I mainly watch in the Fall with the NFL games.

Well I committed to buy the receiver with all of the extras for 200$. I am picking it up later this evening so I am sure I will have a few questions about this receiver once I get it setup. Hopefully it lives up to expectations.

How about proving that it is a clone. Your words are cheap. AzBox was sold to a China company so how do you know that the new owner of AzBox did not start or did not authorize the production of the Premium Plus in China?

Furthermore, I have not seen anything that officially ties you to the AzBox brand. All I have seen from you is a bunch of mud slung at another AzBox retailer named Rick.

Because the hardware design for real AzBox Premium HD Plus units was never actually owned by OpenSat Lda. but rather licensed by Celrun from South Korea. OpenSat had a contract with them at the time to design and manufacture receivers under their AzBox brand. However, the contract between OpenSat and Celrun has not been renewed after the last authentic Premium HD Plus units were manufactured as the AzBox Me and AzBox miniMe models were NOT designed by Celrun.

In this day and age, all electronics typically have a 3 year shelf life. With the AzBox Premium HD Plus starting production back in 2010, it makes perfect sense that it is now discontinued in 2013.

I noticed a slot with a card in it that says opensat.(underneath where the hard drive goes) I think this is the memory. Is this upgradeable?

I think I will wait to buy an extremely fast box when I jump into E2. This box is a bit slow in my opinion. I finally got the internal Wifi setup and have a buddy getting me a 500gb hard drive tomorrow for recording. I will test the media functions then.

I would suggest learning E2 with what you have because you will have a terrible time if you try to learn a new receiver and a complex operating system both at the same time. Also, E2 is not for everybody. You may not like it!
