2016 best fta receivers to buy

It's that time. Time to upgrade my FTA receiver. I am still using my Openbox S9, but my X5 died on me. Just wondering what would be a good receiver to purchase. I'd like to get some opinions before buying one. I have been checking out the X2 M1HD+, the ILink 9000I, Geosatpro 3500HDVR, and the Manhatten DJ-1997. I saw the Technomate TM-5200 HD M3 while searching and it looks interesting, but I see it only comes from the UK. Any thoughts?

I have heard good things about the ILink 9000I, and the Technomate TM-5200 HD M3. Would suggest you converse with someone that actually owns one before buying. I think my last 9 out of 10 receivers were purchased from the U.K or from Europe.

Open Source Linux is about the only type of fta receiver I will buy. All the receivers you mentioned are Closed source, and the support for them has come and gone. Anything that is broken or not working correctly in them will probably not get fixed. Take a look at Open Source Linux and see if it is something you would like to try. You might find you do not need new receivers as often once you get a couple of Open Source receivers.

I have owned no less then 5 Technomate receivers and actually still use the 5302 on one of my ku band setups. Thay are a bit pricier but solid as a rock and extremely sensitive tuners to boot. Just had a looksie and the TM5200 is a bit dated, I would suggest the 5402 M3 or the F 3/5.

Thanks Costa.
The Technomate TM5402 HD M3 is the unit I was looking at, but I made a typo. Is this unit also Linux based? It doesn't say in the specs. The TM800 shows Linux based, but the 5402 M3 looks awesome. Price is not bad, about $200 Canadian in total.

The 5402 isn't linux based but closed source as EB mentioned in previous post. It has an extremely sensitive tuner, fast blind scan and lots of other goodies. Here is where you will find the latest Phantompatch files for this receiver:

Does the TM5402 do 4.2.2? If you don't add the external Hard drive, can you record on USB stick? How large is the internal memory?

Is the Edision OS Mini capable of 16APSK or 32APSK? It is more difficult finding info on this unit in English.

No 4:2:2
I saw a statement that was supposed to be by Broadcom saying their chips would not support 4:2:2 in consumer receivers. Most U.S. sellers know this, but they advertise or hint that their product just may be able to do 4:2:2 one day. It has yet to happen.

The second tuner of the Dual DVB-S2 OS Mini does 16APSK, and I think it is advertised to do 32APSK, but have yet to find a 32APSK signal to test. You will need a big dish for 32APSK. The dual dvb-s2 is the only OS Mini I would suggest. (The single tuner OS mini does not do 16APSK. and is not recommended .)

If you do any feed hunting I would recommend the Technomate. I have a Dr HD D15 which uses similar hardware and it's hands down the best receiver I have for blind scanning. Its not the fastest receiver but the tuner is great.

The X2 would be my second choice for blind scanning. It is fast and picks up way more on blind scans than my Openbox receivers ever did.

Thanks rrob311.
I have ordered the Technomate TM5402 HD M3 receiver. I should have it in about 2 weeks. Looking forward to testing it out. It was a tough decision to make, but I am sure I will be happy with it.
