Satlink WS-6906 satellite meter

I purchased one of these meters about a year ago after getting frustrated with my analog meter. Before I would have my girlfriend in the house watching the meter on the receiver while I fiddled with the dish. This got old very fast so I found an inexpensive solution.

I purchased the Satlink new for about 80$ shipped. It comes with a built in rechargeable battery, ac adapter, and adapter for A/V hookup. The display is a small color screen that works ok as long as you are not in bright conditions. Bright conditions will cause the meter screen to be unreadable.

This meter works well for aiming a dish provided you have dvb-s transponders to point at. My meter did not have a north american satellite list so I had to enter some satellites. While the meter does not do dvb-s2, I have found that as long as I peak my dvb-s signals the s2 signals are pretty close to perfect as well once I check them on the main receiver in the house.

Lately, the display has been dropping out completely when using it and I have to jiggle it to get it to come back on. It seems to have a poor connection inside of it. I am hoping if the display fails that I can carry a small tv with me to hook this up to. There is no battery meter so when the battery gets low it will just shut off without notice. This gets annoying. However, I have a small jumper pack that I can hook this up to outside with a cigar lighter adapter to continue using outside.

Overall this meter is pretty good and I am very happy with it's performance for what I paid. It allows you to watch channels with audio out in the field. It does not do HD. It has diseqc settings in the menus so you can set it up with multiple devices. I have not tested the motor control as I did not see a USALS menu. It would be nice to get a satellite file made for this. The box came with an update cable but I have not found any files for it yet.

I live in Chattanooga, TN (Latitude: 35.1513 & Longitude: -85.1809). I purchased a SATlink WS-6906 from Amazon thinking I could use it to setup my FTA. I needed to point my dish to Galaxy 19 (97W). My dish is "Winegard DS2076 76 cm Dish Antenna" and my LNB is "Twin Lnb 0.1db ,Full Hd Best Performance" by X2 SAT. Unfortunately I haven't been able to do so using Dish elevation of 47.3 and Azimuth of 204.35. My problem is that I can't setup my SATlink properly and as you know the manual is no help.
Could you guys please help me out here?
I really appreciate it.

As long as your 76cm dish is spot on and aligned then you should be able to open most tp on G19, however I would recommend a dish of at least 36".

If you have a look at G19 footprint you'll see what size dish will be required for your area:

Let's wait for Rob to chime in as I have never tested this sat meter before. I just want to make sure your dish is big enough for G19 as some of its tp are glitchy.

Hi Pejmanb, welcome to Legitfta! Do you know if your lnb is standard or universal? Did you try blind scanning with the meter? I would make a new satellite for 97w KU. If you have a universal lnb you will want to set the lnb type to universal in the edit satellite screen. Skimming over the specs for your lnb leads me to believe it is of the universal type which has an internal switch that needs to be utilized to get a signal.

here is a picture of the edit satellite screen where I have made some changes to utilize a "universal" type lnb.

Thanks guys for your respond. Rob, yes my LNb is universal and I have set the sat finder to that type of LNB. but no matter what I do (as far as pointing the dish and adjusting it) the meter shows the signal strength as around 80% and signal quality around 10% and these won't change no matter how I adjust the dish or lnb. I'm wondering if there's another setting I need to set that I don't know.

I use an analog meter inline to search for a signal and then I perform a blind scan with the Satlink meter to see where I am at. Hopefully your meter is not broken.
