Legit FTA storefront...

A friend visited my place, saw my stuff and wants to buy a complete FTA system. Came here to see what is in the storefront and dissapointed. At the 'shop' I see 4 receivers, period.

I pieced mine from different sources, and I would like to find a place for my friend to buy a complete HH, C+Ku, MPEG2+4, HDMI, largish dish, motorized, positioner, decent receiver, the whole system, and found hardly a thing at the Legit store.

If Legit cannot sell the whole system; can you suggest where to buy ? Sadoun ran out of stock for systems. Who else ?

Legitfta is owned by 1 person and all of the bills associated with running this website are paid by the same person.
The main purpose of this website is to have a place where fta and other general discussions can take place without censorship. All of the other websites that I know of for fta in North America are: (1) heavily censored, (2) try to sell you junk,(3) spam you to death, or do all 3 of these things at once.

As for your system or Whole System , fta is on the decline so things such as Whole Systems or Complete Packages are not available like they were ten plus years ago. Probably the best thing to do is make a list of what you want in your Whole System along with how much money you think you should spend for each piece.

I've never bought a whole system from one vendor. I have enjoyed buying from different vendors specific items I needed to complete a system including free from various sources. This has added to the fta experience.

In the old days the stores full of free to air.Special on the time of coolsats pansats viewsates and I love coolsats .Expensive compare to today.Today the stores before order did think about price. Because I remember until twenty two years ago I have cable no free to air. Then the portugues rtp came and I have the 8Ft dish startrack receiver install all for $1000.Today to many good receivers hd from China very good and in good price. On the old days the stores did take advantage from The free to air hobby .Thanks to the Chinese free to air are better on the price for the receivers all equipment did you and me need and
good receivers .Not to long ago I did one estimate from 20 years free to air and cable ( install free by me ) around $8000.And if I have cable from twenty years ago until now around $12000 only 48 channels for $50 .One problem today the English channels are very few because in Canada Usa are to greed .But because I no spanish portugues french I don't mine .And I'm getting old start to don't see to many television and move the big dish not like before. Most of times parking the 8ft at 97 west and the 36 inch at Hispansat the 1.2 m at t12.

Thanks, guys.
As my to-be-novice friend gets overwhelmed with too much new-to-him unknowns, as he knows less than me; the ideal would be to buy a proven complete system.

The reason I see is the compatibility between pieces of equipment. As a C+Ku LNBF without credible specifications if there is a instruction manual supplied with such! may not work with a given receiver to select bands. To aim a motorized dish, a receiver may not be compatible with a specific Diseq a positioner wants to see.

Which makes a very difficult choice of equipment to any beginner. Chinese instructions are unexistant or plain wrong 9 of 10 times.

I came to the forum first as to support it by buying something here. The one person that owns it could offer to put a compatible custom list for the storefront to have some activity. That one person should have a great knowledge of equipment and sourcing. I think.
If not; the experts here that I ran across greatly helping me could in a forum entry, discuss convenient lists for a customer; all aimed to support this site. I think.

If that is the case and agreed, I or anyone could start a "Dream system list" or "Convenient system list" or even a "Poorman system list" forum entry, with the opinions of all you experts until sort of a consensus reaches a result without too much fanatism for brands.

In general:
C/Ku combination lnbs do not and have not ever worked very well. The larger the dish, the more you can get away with as far as installing parts that are not efficient. Anybody that has spent some time with c band lnbs will tell you that adjusting the scalar ring can make a big difference in signal strength. The same thing applies to the ku band, but very few people stop to think about that. At most, the majority of c/ku lnb systems will only give around 30 - 39 inches of dish on the ku band, regardless of what size dish the combination lnb is installed on. Separate dishes for c and ku will almost always give better performance and less headaches than a c/ku combination setup.

I suggest purchasing the receive based on the ability of the owner. If the owner does not want to take the time to learn, or is not capable of learning, then get the easiest to use receiver that is available.

How much to spend is another topic. In general, less money = less performance.

Personal time is another topic. The less time spent trying to understand how things work and making improvements will usually mean lower performance. It is hard to buy into fta with money. I have seen people spend tons of money and still have poor performance because they were not teachable or did not want to learn. Cable, DirectTV, and DishNetwork may be better choices, depending on what you want to accomplish.

Content is another area that needs to be looked at. Some people think that premium channels are available to a fta system, which sometimes they are, but it is usually not very often.

So get a vision of what you want to accomplish, how much you are willing to spend, and what you want to end up with. Then you will be ready to write a list of parts that are needed and find sources for them.
