All Time 5 Favourite Receivers

Thought about starting a thread like this for a while. A list of each persons favourite satellite receivers that you've tested:

1. Technomate 5302

2. X2 Premium

3. Pansat 3500

4. Skybox F3

5. Dr Hd D15

6. Coolsat 6000

7. Openbox s9

8. Golden Media Trplex

9. Azbox Premium +

10. Azbox Ultra

I know I added more but these receivers were my mains at one time or another.

I havenÂ’t owned many receivers but I like 3 of my receivers and have a love hate relationship with another. Currently use the x3 for ku, iSmart for c band and HdStar for anything 4:2:2 or to get feed details.

1) Openbox s9. This was my first receiver and while it is far from the best on the market it has played a big role in bringing me and a lot of others into the fta hobby.

2) HdStar usb receiver. Bought this for $48 on aliexpress and does all current dvb-s/dvb-s2 modulations that are not acm/vcm.

3) Openbox x3. Pretty much a smaller version of the s9.

4) iSmart x6. I was majorly disappointed with this receiver when I got it because it wonÂ’t run my sg2100, but it has a more sensitive tuner than my other
receivers and has allowed me to watch feeds I otherwise wouldnÂ’t be able to.

Like 77ta I haven't owned many but here are my choices

1) X2 - fast blind scan and a pretty sensitive tuner. My wife never liked it because it didn't allow her to move around like the Optibox Anaconda

2) The Anaconda. Love everything about this receiver except the maddenly slow blindscan

3) Openbox S9

4) Coolsat 8000HD. I still say that had this receiver ever had blindscan capabilities it would still be my #1 receiver.

X2 -Best and fastest blind scan for feed hunting
Golden Media Triplex- best interface and best overall tuner functionality
Coolsat 8000- very sensitive tuner and cool menus
Sonicview 8000HD- My favorite satellite meter (has a line graph) I caught my first fta feeds with this receiver, the blind scan is good
Pansat 9200HD- versatile receiver and very sensitive OTA tuner
Eyebox X5- Excellent multimedia functions and fast blind scan

X2- Fast, well what can I say, undisputed fast and accurate blind scan.Although I've never had another to compare it to,it lives up to what I've read and watched being compared to. 2-Pansat 2300a 3- 2700a,both aren't hd receivers, but the 2700a has accurate blind scan.

I have probably tested or looked at 30+ boxes..some I received from the manufacturer that did not have a name and still do not since they are in the graveyard.

I'm not sure if this is my list it's not easy..but for now it is..

Optibox Raptor - Most Versatile and fun box

Golden Media Triplex - Still a nice versatile box and fast Blind scans

X2 Premium HD - What can you say- Super fast Blind scan and good support for the price.

Openbox S9 - Was a nice box to play with but hardware was cheap.

Coolsat 5000- sentimental #5 well built and still used for setting up a new dish.

Let's see, in no particular order:

Pansat 330A - Able to hold a signal that other receivers couldn't. Feature control via serial port. Channel editor support. Ran alternate firmware (No, this was before piracy! Alternate as in other models from the same manufaturer with almost the same hardware.)

Optibox Raptor - As above, plus best all-around mediabox I've ever had. Only dings are the tuner not holding some signals that other receivers can and nothing higher than 8psk.

Drake ESR 1824 - Analog only, but the longest continuously-in-service receiver I have. When others have failed or been replaced, this one still moves the C-Band dish and can view analog signals.

Manhattan RS-1933 - Given to a relative in the same house, but when I had it, it got things my other receivers couldn't. Good build quality. Behind similar hardware on the software front, but for what it could do, it did well.

Solomend HD-PVR - When it worked, it was great. Dead at the moment with an exploded capacitor. Never bothered to try to fix it.

Only five? I could add a couple more that were great in their day, but we don't talk about that, here ;)

X2 Premium HD- My main daily scans receiver
Linkbox 8000HD Local- A nice FTA/ ATSC (OTA) just to watch TV in my family room
Coolsat 8100HD- Too bad mine went dead and I couldnt fix it. As mentioned the lack of blindscanning didnt make it to be one of the best!!
All Captiveworks models- To me one of the best SD receivers ever. Still using them to do my installatiions using SD frequencies
Openbox X5- I use this model for IPTV , weather and gmail

I've had almost a month to test the dr hd f15, technomate 5302 and x2 premium head to head to actually see which receiver has the most sensitive tuner. In almost a dead heat the Technomate 5302 just slightly beat out the X2 Premium and the Dr hd F15 came a close third. I've stated this before and I will state it again, the Technomate 5302 is the best receiver I have ever tested for the dxing part of this hobby but the X2 Premium blind scan is untouchable.
