Acer Iconia Tab 8

I've always liked and trusted Asus products (motherboards, monitors) and have supported them in the past. Although, I can't say much for their rebate program. Recently, my wife's Nexus 7 stopped working and shut down. I thought it might have been incorrectly shut off or maybe one of the updates did not complete correctly or the cache was not cleared after the update or maybe the battery went dead.

So, I tried all the tricks to try and revive it (power switch plus volume control, etc.) and still no go. Took the case off and check the battery and connections and still no go. Voltage was good. Checked for loose connections and everything looked good. I ordered a new battery anyway and installed it, but still no boot. I figured the bootloader got corrupt some how. Took it to a local geek repair shop and they couldn't revive it either.

Only reason I spent so much time trying to repair it, was my wife likes it so much.

Finally, called Asus and they wanted $360 plus shipping to repair the unit. I told them I didn't want to have it refurbed, all I wanted was the bootloader reinstalled along with the latest OS. Nope, they sill wanted $360.

Went to Costco Saturday and picked up an Acer Iconia Tab 8 for $170. It's got the latest Kit Kat android OS with an Intel Atom 1.8 ghz chip, 16 gb flash, 2 gb ram, 8" 1920x1200 larger display, 5mp rear and 2mp front cameras, Bluetooth, wifi both 2.5 and 5 ghz, sd slot, hdmi slot and much faster boot/shutdown and downloads than the Nexus. Plus it includes a case.

So, far very impressed with the Acer tablet and its performance and screen display.

In the future Asus can KMA.
