Thank you Chewie for your input of the up scaling of the 4k. I was and still am considering if it is worth the hassle of replacing my current 72 inch Mitsubishi DLP. Only because it's lacking enough hdmi inputs and it doesn't recognize the PAL inputs. But other than that, I love the picture quality in HD and SD. I've seen the 4k Samsungs, Sharps, Panasonics, etc., live on the floor demos. But to me they don't seem to have the clarity and sharpness of a DLP. Sure they're much brighter and colorful, but they seem to be lacking the natural, warm, color clarity that I am use to watching.
Years ago, I used to receive Bell and made recordings of OasisHD prior to any compression was the law of the land. I recorded some scenes from Tobermory, Ontario - Baie-Comeau, La Malbaie, Quebec - Tofino, Whistler, Nelson, BC and other beautiful Canadian locations - The depth, clarity and perception of the water and depth scenes, wave ripples, rock pebbles, the cliffs, rock formations and striations, sharpness of the bird's flapping wing feathers, the bees flying or stationary plus many other animals, the snow scenes, colors, etc., etc., still does not seem to come close to a 4k tv. I use these recordings as references to adjust my big screens and compare to what is out there.
I am a firm believer that a trained ISF calibrator will do wonders for your big screen tv no matter what one may use for a reference. But I do love to watch those many years old recordings from OasisHD.
