you have questions, they have blank stares.
It is actually a thermistor, mail order the only way to go.
I got the blank flash chips from digikey, they charge sales tax so don't forget to include or they will harass you for 59 cents.

Some of the new receivers are probably not going to cost much more than a S10. Let's wait and see.
In the meantime, any information on fixing an Openbox is appreciated.
One Openbox problem I would like to see a solution for is when the receiver displays ON, or ----, and you cannot communicate with it through the rs232 or the ethernet port. I suspect the flash chip has been damaged when this happens.

loader v2.0.0c will fix any dead receiver unless it has a red light only showing, that is a hardware problem.
Clone kill ff's out the bootloader section of flash and the 1st 64k of app area and you can still recover via rs232.
You must use v2.0.0c not newer or older. It must be the version that had eromclient.abs of 56k.Smaller .abs were for older processors.
A bogus version of 2.0.0c was just a renamed 2.0.0b and has no eromclient.abs file included.
You can't brick the s9 or s10,the processor has code to keep the rs232 port working even with a blank flash chip.

I agree Dr. Zin but some of the S9 receivers I have seen, the rsr232 and the ethernet port do not work. The receiver displays ON and you cannot connect to it. If you have a hardware solution for that, please start a thread on it. Thanks. EB

You could just cut this part out and jump the connection and the receiver would work. BUT.. you will have no short circuit protection for your coax. Most of us short out the coax briefly when mating up F connectors. Also you could put a 1/2 amp fuse in place of it. BUT.. you will have to open up the receiver and replace it every time a shot occurs. The thermistor is self re-setting.

the generic schematic shows it as part of an overload circuit,it may not be as simple as just a fuse in series with the output.
