Firmware from jan 2011 to march 2011,the tuner didn't work on the s10.
I assume these were s9 firmwares because of the vertical menu.
No firmware from march 4 to march 25 would even boot on the s10.
April 4 was the only april firmware.
May 5 was the first firmware with ftp lan support, actually a misnomer
since they use tcp/udp for file transfer.Regular ftp programs won't work.
Many releases of firmware in may, must have been a busy month.
These were the last firmwares that didn't have the "moving dish" nag screen
even when the dish is aimed correctly already.
File naming has been bizarre since day 1,often times you have no idea what
rev the firmware is until you see the info screen on receiver after loading.
The proper naming format would be the same info as on the info screen .zip

Firmware with bootloader rev S2BST will boot on the s10,but the tuner doesn't work.
These are 2meg flashes usually, from receivers like comag sl 50/90/100
The cheapo rca universal $5 remote will scan the code so you can tweak the settings.
For that remote it was a 5 digit entry 52360
Setone tx-8000hd will boot on s10,but I couldn't figure out the remote codes.
Setone hd4u is a 4meg flash, same thing with that lacking a remote now.
The front panel doesn't work with any cousin firmware so far.
The tuner not working could be a clone detection or just a hardware mismatch.

there are cousin receivers that upgrade over the sat, these are almost impossible to find firmware for even on the manufacturers site.I have seen firmware that have no motor selection or network.Comag has the signal beep choice but you need a remote with the green button, not too good playing with a universal remote.
I picked up 2 more said remotes in a joblot store for $3 each.More fun for this afternoon.

rule of thumb is I eyeball the firmware before I even download off the net.Ones that boot so far are the 2meg flash varieties or if 4meg the .zip or .rar will be around 1.6meg.Compressed files that are 2meg and slightly bigger don't boot. These are firmwares with m3602a or m3602b as part of the bootloader name.
The --- ones in the name are close enough to the original smt---1.0.0 to boot at least.
    DVBS2---1.0.4 DVBS2---0.1.0 DVBS2---1.2.0

I finally got to hear the signal beep function on a m3602 based receiver (almost).
The comag sl 90 firmware had that option and I turned it on.Since the tuner doesn't work when
that firmware is loaded in the s10,it wasn't very musical.Basically it was a steady tone that
I assume goes up in freq as the signal quality goes up.

It really sucks not having an original remote.
Even if you manage to get a universal remote working,
you are lacking the colored buttons which the good menus need.

I got setone .rmdu jp1 files for my jp1 remotes,I have to build the cable and program with that.

comag firmware gives you the option to choose the .ts file size, you aren't locked in to 1gig.
    1,2,3,4gig or max.
They have no option to save receiver firmware to usb, probably why it's so hard to find firmware from users.

I played with a rare one last night;CHDS2-11-05-04:0077CMT which was on openbox receivers that shipped in may 2011 and never appeared on any factory site as an upgrade. If you notice the date it is 1 day before the may 5 2011 firmware and had no lan support yet.I found it years ago as part of a recovery package for the s10,the author had saved his original factory firmware before upgrading. This has the vertical menu and no dish moving nag when the dish is already aimed properly. As long as the dish has a signal on tp1 the dish moving nag disappears by itself after 1 second. Some people blamed the processor or sdk used for making the firmware, this proves it could have been avoided by a firmware tweak. You only get the dish moving popup when the dish is actually moving. It wouldn't take a newer channel list so I had to start from scratch. But the antenna setup screen lets you enter the diseqc motor setting and the motor behaved and moved to the preset settings I use for openbox and my x2.Usb stick or hardrive has to be fat32 and it records in .pvr format.
