I don't really understand your question. Maybe someone else does?

Enigma2 images are "similar" in design and function, but some things are different between distros. OpenATV is one of the OE Alliance distros. Specific help for Openatv may be found here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Not a bit. I always say Google is your friend.
But a few general rules must be followed.
Correct me but for the US. In the FTA hobby. A Universal lnbf should not be needed. As the only satellites using ku high band are dishnet and directv.
A standard linear polarization ku and c band lnbf should do. A very few circular polarized c band satellites can be received.
Still. Rules must be followed. And they are between E2 images. So everyone stays on the same page.

    CONTROL SIGNAL
    - LOW BAND(Vertical) 11.5 - 14.0V DC + 0 KHz
    - LOW BAND(Horizontal) 16.0 - 19.0V DC + 0 KHz
    - HIGH BAND(Vertical) 11.5 - 14.0V DC + 22 KHz
    - HIGH BAND(Horizontal) 16.0 - 19.0V DC + 22 KHz

Your lnbf may be just happy operating off of 10-11 Volts DC that is carried over the coax from the receiver to it.
To switch polarities from vertical. Look at the table. The lnb will power on, it will operate fine. But it will only be able to receive vertical polarized transponders.

Inside of the lnbf "throat" there are 2 antennas placed 90 degrees apart. One to receive vertical polarized signals. And perhaps you can answer what the other one is for.
To switch between the 2 antennas the lnbf electronics needs a DC voltage above 16VDC.
The actual amplifier circuit in it will be regulated to be happy with (read above) 10 or so volts. And as it is regulated. 19 volts won't blow it out.
But. The antenna probe switch section will need a voltage higher than 16 volts to kick over and connect to that other probe.

That is done in your receiver. If you blindscan, manual scan and measure the voltage on the coax. You will see it alternate between the desired 13 & 18 VDC.

If we have a universal lnbf. And set it up correctly in tuner setup. The exact same as above happens when switching polarities in the high band.
Except now we send a pulse. Perhaps continuous. Of a 22 kilohertz (kHz) signal. Just above the human hearing capability. Signal along with the 13 & 18 VDC polarity switching voltage.
The lnbf electronics "hears" the signal and kicks in the high band frequency converter and that converted frequency range is sent down the coax cable to the receiver.

Remember. Where that high band conversion starts, where the switch for it operates. Is established in the threshold setting in tuner setup.

It would be a bit more fulfilling if we could stick on one subject. The .xml portion kind of fizzled out. What's up with that?

A fta satellite system in North America will be no better than the work put into it.

Generally speaking, folks that get into fta satellite in North America and only take the time to only ask a few specific questions without doing much reading usually do not last long. Understanding how and why things work, and understanding how and why certain parts are installed are some of the keys to success in fta satellite. If you are not doing something, you are not learning something.

You cannot expect much if you buy a cheap fta receiver, install a small satellite dish, then use cheap reception parts such as lnbf's.

Installing multiple lnbs on a dish to get different satellite bands, or using a c/ku lnbf do not normally work as well when compared to satellite dish systems that are dedicated to doing one job.

A motorized dish system cannot be aimed accurately when compared to a properly mounted stationary dish. A motorized dish has to target different satellites. A stationary dish targets One satellite.

LNB'(s) lnb feeds need to be properly matched to a satellite dish. The same matching and adjusting principles apply to both c and ku satellite bands.

Usually a lnbf is nothing more than a compromise, designed to work in a variety of situations when compared to a lnb and a matched feed.

ANY fta satellite system that has identical parts as a commercial satellite system should give excellent performance. FTA satellite is all about part matching. The better the parts are matched in an antenna system, the better the antenna system can perform.

Almost always, any lnb that has a short frequency band will perform at least somewhat better than an identical type lnb with a longer or larger frequency band.

It is easy to say: "There is nothing much to watch", OR a certain satellite band is not useful when there is no access to that band or the parts used for it are poorly matched. There are several transponders below 11700 MHz with channels that are available in North America. Reception of transponders below 11700 MHz may not be available to everyone in North America, and usually require at least a decent 1.2 meter dish, Several ku transponders below 11700 MHz may require dedicated 1.8 meter , 2,4 meter (or bigger) properly equipped satellite dish for decent reception. Mesh type c band satellite dishes usually perform poorly on ku bands.

Decent circular c band satellite reception is possible in parts of North America. There are more channels available on circular c band than most realize, but again, proper parts matching is a must for decent reception of circular c band signals.

Here are some links that have useful information about fta satellite:

Having the proper lnb really helps when searching for circular type signals. The Invacom qph-031 is actually designed to receive circular type type signals, which would probably appear to look like a corkscrew being turned left or right if we could see them. We can convert a regular linear type lnb into a somewhat circular configuration by placing a dielectric plate between the horizontal and vertical probes in the lnb throat or feed.

Converting a linear lnb to receive circular signals is a compromise and usually performs poorly when compared to a lnb designed to receive circular signals. How the dielectric plate is installed will decide the performance of a linear lnb converted to circular. The Invacom qph-031 is a great choice for both circular and linear signals on ku band, but hardly anything exists that is reasonably priced for c band.

Several hundred radio and tv channels are available on Circular c band satellites. There are circular c band feeds that not many people seem to know about, but having the proper equipment to receive these channels can be a challenge. The average FTA satellite receiver does not care if signals are scanned as linear or circular, and will usually provide identical scan results regardless of whether a circular satellite is scanned as horizontal/vertical (linear), or left/right circular as these settings are really cosmetic.

Shown below is a recent scan of a circular c band satellite that is viewable in parts of North America. There are more ACTIVE services and transponders than shown in this scan in part because a linear lnb converted to circular was used. T2MI signals are also on this satellite, but this particular receiver is not T2MI capable.

This was supposed to be Wil's post. Looks like he's gone MIA.
    So. Fly me to Cuba!
May I ask. Where was your report written? You must like the SF8008. Looks like my next receiver.

I see your scan spans 3625 to 4800. One. Why not start at 3400 MHz? I suspect a 5G filter or new lnbf?
Two. If the highest freq. of the lnbf is 4200. Does that mean there is not a hard limit and it still can work at higher frequencies. But with a roll off in sensitivity?
And in the case of a wideband lnbf like the C2W. The same for the lower end below 3400 MHz?

I probably should know this. If I rescan a sat like 127W. After I've renamed the channels from Program 101, 102, 103 let's say. After a scan they revert back to Program XXX instead of the name I assigned them in my channel editor. How to prevent that?

Invacom's site is hard as hell to navigate. If you hit the main page and look at their products. Let's say lnbf, feeds. It's pretty sparse.
If you web search "Invacom <whatever>" when someone hints of one of their products that didn't show in the main page. And get a link. Bang! You're there. Freaky.

I started a rant (again). It basically came down to back when I was tech. services manager at my previous company.
One of my tasks was to train new hires to run their machines and the setup process between jobs.
Many had come from the same industry. Operating similar machinery and processes.
But the equipment was static. They never ran anything but the same job every day. Ours may have 4-6 or more jobs to setup and run.
As I was showing a new guy the ropes. After a few days of hoping he would catch on. Another operator he spoke with mentioned to her.
"That man sure talks to himself a lot". She told me that.
She came back to him with. He's not talking to himself. He's trying to show you how to setup your machine so you can do it yourself. Don't you see how busy he already is?
I guess he caught on after that. But. There were some 'dogs that wouldn't hunt'.
I mean. At least they could bring the frikkin' ball back. Right?

TNAP images create scan reports automatically after each scan and store them in /tmp of the receiver files by default.

The c band lnbs are Norsat, 8000RI, which receives 3625-4800 MHz.
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

The blindscan plugin automatically selects the maximum range that can be scanned, and it does not help much At All to change the scan range. Default scan range is best!

Customized channel names will be overwritten in a scan. There is an option to Not to scan transponders found in lamedb channel files in the TNAP image.

Transponders above 4200 MHz are like circular transponders: They are there, but not many know they exist because they cannot receive them. There is a decent FTA movie channel on 65w above 4200 MHz, and also below 11700 MHz on ku band. Circular lnbs, and extended band lnbs are good items to have.

Here is a scan of 65w c band:

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    Code:
                             Scan Report

The lnb cannot perform any better than it is mounted. In general, ku lnbf's such as the Invacom qph 031 should be pushed all the way back against the lnb holder and not pushed forward. If a lnb/lnbf works better or seems to work better in a place where it is not supposed to be, then the dish is not adjusted correctly, warped, not assembled correctly, or has other problems. A ku dish that has the lnbf slid forward by a quarter or half inch may work fine stationary, but you can expect the signals to fluctuate on different satellites if it is motorized.

Heavy lnbs such as the Invacom qph 031 need good support and probably should not be mounted on flimsy satellite dishes, or dishes with no side arm support.

Here is a 90 cm dish that shows the ku lnb slid all the way back in the holder. This dish also has side arms for extra lnb support.

A bit more signal may be had with custom feeds that are designed or matched better for the dish. Shown here is a Raven feed attached to a C120 type Inverto Quad. This Raven feed has provisions as to where it is supposed to be mounted. This feed Is Designed to have the scalar rings slid forward in the holder when compared to the lnbf on the 90 cm dish.

LNBS in general will perform a bit better than lnbf's, especially when feeding multiple receivers. Here is a pair of iDirect universal ku lnbs attached to a 2.4 meter stationary Prodelin Commercial dish. 2.4 Meters is an excellent size for ku band. This particular dish will get transponders and channels that the 1.2 meter dish with the Raven feed cannot even "see".
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Sometimes when parts are changed, the feed or scalar rings may need to be raised or lowered. Adjustment provisions should be made at the bottom of the dish by use of threaded rod instead of at the top where the scalar rings are. Adding adjustments for raising or lowering the feed at the top are not as sturdy and may allow the whole feed to move, causing the signal to fluctuate. Prodelin has feed adjustments at the bottom by use of threaded rod and nut as shown below.

Adjusting or aligning the lnb or satellite dish can be frustrating when the satellite signal is uncommonly strong. (Circular satellites are noted for their strength.) The transponders that have open channels on 77w(?) are very strong on my 1.2 meter dish with linear type lnbs. I find the watchable tv signal stretches out about 3.5 degrees which overlaps another satellite since the two satellites are spaced a bit less than 2 degrees apart.

To further confuse, the 78.8w satellite is supposed to be on a beam that favors Mexico, but the satellite is also listed as having beams capable of CONUS. So which satellite you are actually on can become confusing in a situation like this, especially with smaller satellite dish antennas. I probably need at least the 2.4 meter or bigger ku satellite dish to separate these two satellites.

Here are two screencaps showing a spread of 76.0 to 79.5 for the channels that are supposed to be on 77.0w. If this is correct, then I am 1 degree below, and 2.5 degrees above this satellite with a usable tv signal. The entire usable tv signal spread is: 79.5-76.0 Or 3.5 degrees. That is a lot for ku band on a 1.2 meter dish. Ditto the fact that linear lnbs are being used on a circular signal.

In general. universal type lnbs will be a bit weaker than a standard lnb because the universal lnb is designed to receive a wider frequency range. There are not a terribly lot of watchable tv and radio channels, but there are probably more than you think. Shown below is a blindscan of 117w Ku using Universal lnb near Atlanta, Ga.
