I guess it has been at least 5 years since a New FTA Satellite Receiver has been released. There have been a few new models of fta satellite receivers in the last 5 years, but they have really been nothing more than copies or upgrades of existing receivers. The Pandemic could be blamed for the lack of New fta satellite receivers because the Pandemic caused a chip shortage. The worldwide demand for FTA receivers is also deceasing.

Two new receivers appeared around the first of 2023, and are probably made by the same manufacturer. These receivers are named Uclan Ustym 4K S2 OTT X and Octagon SX88v2. Both of these receivers seem to be stripped versions of Octagon SF8008, or receivers built by the same manufacturer as the SF8008 such as the Gigablue Trio.

The Uclan Ustym 4K S2 OTT X and Octagon SX88v2 receivers seem to have the same tuner as the SF8008, and also use the same DVB-S/S2 blindscan binary file which would suggest decent blindscanning capabilities. The Uclan Ustym 4K S2 OTT X and Octagon SX88v2 receivers are currently selling for under 125 U.S. Dollars with shipping to the United States included. It should be noted that the Octagon SX88v2 Is Not The Same as the Octagon SX88 4K receiver, even though they look almost identical.

The Uclan Ustym 4K S2 OTT X and Octagon SX88v2 are dual boot receivers, with your choice of an appliance type operating system or enigma2 operating system. These receivers are capable of multi-boot and have exactly One internal DVB-S/S2, T2MI, Multistream tuner. It is unknown if these receivers will support ATSC usb tuners.

We are already halfway through 2023, and in years past, there would be at least 5 to 10 different new fta receivers available at the hallway point of the year. Of course several of these "New" receivers would be copies of other receiver models. FTA satellite receiver production has almost stopped since the year 2020. The slump in FTA satellite receiver production can be expected to continue, but new FTA satellite receiver production should pick up a bit at some point.

The lack of new FTA receivers has almost certainly hurt enigma2 image groups. It costs money to run servers and build enigma2 images. Some of the receiver manufacturers were supporting the enigma2 image groups in various ways, but most likely, this support has almost stopped since no new receivers are being released. Hopefully 2024 will be better, but it does not look like there will be much of anything in the way of New FTA Satellite Receivers for the year 2023.

The chipset for Uclan Ustym 4K S2 OTT X and Octagon SX88v2 is Hi3798Mv300. The chipset for the Octagon SF8008 is Hi3798Mv200. Most of the specs of these two chipsets are equal, but the Octagon SF8008 chipset, Hi3798Mv200 has about 1 GB more memory than the Hi3798Mv300 chipset. The Hi3798Mv300 chipset is shown to be associated with Android 4.4.2 which is a bit dated.

There appears to be nothing New in the Uclan Ustym 4K S2 OTT X and Octagon SX88v2 receivers. Some things may perform better due to previous mistakes being corrected, or some things could perform worse due to the lack of caring in the production of these receivers. A newly released FTA receiver is always a crapshoot, especially when it is used in North America.

The Uclan Ustym 4K S2 OTT X is set to arrive tomorrow. The level of support from Uclan seems impressive. We will see...
