Didn't state it well enough. The flood of AzBox Premium HD Plus clones into Canada was made known in December (though they discovered some in October), and prompted a delay in updated firmware from AZBox Canada (author of 5400 and 5402, both released July 2012) who said "all subsequent firmware releases will include code in order to permanently disable these devices."

no a clone kill code is only a 30 min setback if you know what to do and how to do it, but if you have a true azbox, then you see a clone you will know it,
there is somthing off looking about a clone.

Sure, for someone like yourself who knows what to do to recover a bricked unit, most probably would be recoverable (of course, some clone units could be "once a brick, always a brick" LOL!). However, it certainly would "permanently" disable any clone from using that firmware!

well i wish it were that simple but it is not infact there are clone safe files out there for the azboxes, all one needs to do is remove the clone
kill code from the firmware then load it.
the only way to stop cloned recivers is to bomb china.

I have a line on one of these receivers for around 200$. Is it worth it?

IMO, it would depend on the condition of the receiver. You can probably buy a new premium Plus from China for about $225. EB

The AzBox Premium HD Plus has been discontinued for several months now so why risk buying a clone from China with no warranty or support if something goes wrong?

Not bad at all Rob. The azbox premium+, in my opinion, has the best picture quality of all my receivers and opens all 4:2:2 and 4:2:0 feeds which I mainly watch in the Fall with the NFL games.

Well I committed to buy the receiver with all of the extras for 200$. I am picking it up later this evening so I am sure I will have a few questions about this receiver once I get it setup. Hopefully it lives up to expectations.
