The last update changes the way the SF4008 looks at transponders. To get a signal on transponder in the SF4008 for DVB-S/S2, you only need the frequency, symbol rate, and polarity. All other transponder values may be set to auto in the SF4008. This change allows the SF4008 to use the satellites.xml file from the Octagon SX88! SO now it is possible to have the SX88 blindscan for the SF4008!
Here is an example of the satellites.xml file that is in my SF4008. (It was taken form the SX88.)
<transponder frequency="3813000" symbol_rate="8030000" polarization="0" fec_inner="0" system="0" modulation="0" mts="0" plsN="0"/>
Am unable to test DVB-S2x or multi-stream. These transponder types are not available for me to test yet.
This is exactly how TBS works too! All values are set to auto!
TBS or TBS5925 will log fec and other transponder items correctly, but only needs three items to get a signal. So Yes. same as TBS!
It would be nice if the SF4008 would get the promised blindscan, but using the SX88 will work for me until something better is available.
The engineers of Octagon all they have to do is give the closed source code of the blindscan algorithm of SX88 and port it to Enigma2. It's easy and doable. They simply don't want to, because that will mess the sales of their SX88, since Octagon uses Opensource Enigma2 and once the secret is out everyone will port it to their own similar receivers.
This is why I don't really believe them when they say it's difficult....
Makes sense. As usual it's always about the money and not about the right thing to do (release the code).
Attached is a screencap of a finished free(FTA) scan of 97 West c band. Start and finish time stamps have been added by customizing the service scan file.
The SF4008 scan was done using a satellites.xml file that was generated by blindscanning the Octagon SX88. This will probably be as close as you can get to a blindscan in the SF4008.
